What is a DARC Node and What are the Different types?
The DARC node controls most of the GOC functions and it’s data flow. The DARC first receives the reconstruction request from the host computer (HP 8000, 8200, or 8400) and is able to generate the image set. It relies completely on an IG(Image Generator) to reconstruct it’s raw data to an image that is visually appealing.
The DARC1 contains of 1 internal drive (40GB IDE) to allow software to be loaded to it. It relies on a separate SDDA (Scan Disk Array) to handle its raw data. The DARC 2 contains of 1 internal drive along with internal 2 raw disk drives internally. This allows for the GOC 4 system to run without a separate SDDA. After the DARC Node creates an image set, it requests image generation from the IG node.
There are two manufacturers of these DARC Compute NODE’s; Westerville and Jarrell. The main difference of the two is that during a replacement software load, the Westerville you will need to do a couple extra steps to change the BIOS settings. For a Jarrell, you do not have to change the BIOS order. You can replace the DARC, and run a DARC load.
