Renting a Mobile CT Scanner – A Guide – Part 2

by | Apr 23, 2021 | CT

Offering the best possible patient care equates to investing in the best possible medical equipment. They need to have access to proper diagnostic processes, which include laboratories, skilled healthcare practitioners, and of course, heavy equipment like CT scanners.

As previously covered by the first part of our guide, however, not all healthcare facilities have access to CT machines. This can be due to various reasons, but budget remains to be an insurmountable constraint for many. For this reason, an alternative option like the mobile CT scanner is steadily gaining popularity.

Should you deem the rental mobile CT scanner lucrative and viable for your medical facility, keep in mind that other factors will still come to play. Here’s what you need to know:

1 – The space and surface requirements

Make sure to assess these elements before agreeing to a rental contract

Before you sign any agreements, it’s important to first figure out the actual size of the machine. You need to make sure that you have ample space for it, as well as the right surface for it to be placed upon. More often than not, these mobile CT machines need harder materials for ample support, such as concrete and asphalt. If you plan to set it up in your medical facility’s community garden, it will tend to sink as time passes.

You’ll also want to take other space considerations into account, such as the mobile CT’s slide-out features. Ramps and pathways will also need to be present, particularly since your patients will be transported in and out of the trailer.

2 – Network connection

It’s no secret that CT scanners need tremendous power to operate properly, but mobile CT scanners need special features, such as a network connection. You’ll need to make sure that images gathered from the trailer are deposited into the office, where it can then be accessed by everyone who needs it, including the patient.

Your best chance would be to work with IT professionals, who will be able to connect the mobile scanner into the hospital’s network—all without inviting potential malware and cyber attackers into the scene.

3 – Customer support

Apart from logistics and connectivity, you’ll also want to take customer support into consideration. You’ll want to rent the mobile CT scanner from a reputable company, preferably one that allows you 24/7 access to support. They’ll also provide you with added data, an insured equipment, as well as free training for your staff.

The Bottom Line

All these factors point to a single truth—renting a mobile CT scanner still entails costs. The question now stands—do these costs justify the benefits you can enjoy? The answer is that it depends, especially since purchasing a CT scanner outright also entails huge sums of money. Mobile CT scanners have been designed as short-term solutions for various facilities, especially those that are going through renovations or upgrades.

For many, however, mobile CT units have now become a long-term solution. When it comes down to it, the final decision will be based on your specific needs and budgets. Choose wisely!
